Why is this important?  What is its significance?

 From our ancestors, we know that success cannot be inherited. It only "lasts" when successive generations work hard. There were famous examples in our ancestor struggles. The following quotes say it all.

将相本无种，男儿当自强

The 族譜zu2pu3 teaches us to respect the past. There is  no present without the struggles and hard work of our ancestor. We stand on the shoulders of the past giants.

(Fine line between appreciation, inspiration and deification - the emphasis is not necessarily on the ultimate title or accomplishment but the work that it took to get there)

(Not exclusive - It is a study of the human condition and ,with any type of study, we realize ties and commonalities)

Foo, Fu (符)is a common last name you may not have heard of in the United States. It is at the top 1% of the US surnames (last names).

Hainan, Hunan 海南，湖南 Fu's  population account  for 72% of Foo in China. Hainan Island 海南 alone accounts for 49%.

According to the survey data in 2006, China's Foo (Fu) population is about one million, accounting for 0.075% of the China's population. It  is the the first 142 of China's 4100 surnames (ranks top 3.4%).

25% of Foo live overseas, that  population is  about 300,000, accounting for 1% of the oversea Chinese. It is 13 times more than the domestic Foo concentration.The total world Foo population is about 1.4 million .

The chinese surnames 符、苻、傅、伏's translation to English can be Fu, Foo, Phu, Pho, Pou, Pu. Because of simplification of the Chinese language, the domestic, 符、苻、傅 can be written as「付」 in China. 

In 2015 the top ten  ranking  surnames in Hainan Province  are: Chen, Wang, Li, Wu, Fu, Lin, Huang, Zhang, Zhou, Zheng. 陈、王、李、吴、符、林、黄、张、周、郑。

From the 2000 US census, they are 4,040,966 last name with the frequency occurrence listed in the table shown below. 65% of the last name has only one occurrence!!! One of the reason why there are so many last names is because women might combine their last name with their spouse's, and that becomes a unique one of a c kind last name.

And I look at Chinese last name符, which can be spelled as Foo, Fou, Pou, Fu.etc.

Fu （May be 符，傅， 富，阜 etc） ranges 5658 with 5624 occurrences, Foo (符，傅 etc.) ranges 20995 with 1167 occurrences Pou ranges 21651 with 1122 occurrence. However most of them are list as Hispanic, white or black., and only 10% is API.
For Fu and Foo, most of them are Asian pacific islander (API) or 2 races.( 94%+2%, 80%+10%), and I presume most of them are Chinese. Other符 may spells differently if they are from e.g. Thailand , Indonesia.. etc. But they are the minority
Therefore , the population of符in America is much less than 6791, likely around 2000 to 3000 ( since the population of 傅 is expected to be more than符).
